This was some action film ish. Ready?
I’m part of a clan of rebels or resistance fighters in the future, in a country and system that resembles feudal Japan. We are at the coronation of an emperor, and the idea is that we have to kill him. We all have disguise outfits that make us blend in with the royal crowd - elaborate traditional yet futuristic Japanese outfits, decked out with neon lights and ornate weaponry. I walk around and am weary about all the concerned looks that the others are giving me, presumably because I don’t look Japanese, in a crowd of mainly Japanese people. I am listening to my fellow rebels in my mind, who are contacting me through what seems like an earpiece (but the sound isn’t processed through my ears).
Crunch time. I’m told that everyone pays respects to the new emperor by kneeling before him, act out the motions of seppuku with a ceremonial blade, prostrate twice, and walk to the side and let others do the same. When I’m in the side, I will be given a signal and then I will have to kill the emperor. When it comes to my turn to pay respects, my heart is pounding. There are two bodyguards beside the emperor, who look at least 140 kilos. I draw unnecessary attention when I choose the wrong blade, and I arouse their suspicion but accept my respects.
I walk to the side, and I see the signal from the back of the room - a mist. Seconds after, I hear gunshots, screaming, explosions. The bodyguards scramble to protect the emperor, and I have a clear line to him. I realise that this is my moment. I run towards him, un-sheath a blade, and cleanly decapitate him. But before I can escape I am shot by hundreds of poison darts and arrows. The pain was so real, and it woke me up. I’m writhing in my bed!
